Woolwich Creative Club presents a series of jazz concerts at Tramshed between February and July. Three seminal and influential jazz acts will perform six concerts, featuring some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians and pioneers.
The Effra Band

Jamaica Jazz at its very finest with these supreme musicians who have played with legends: Fela Kuti, The Specials, Jools Holland, PJ Harvey and many iconic Reggae and Jazz artists. Fresh from their residency at the Effra Hall Tavern in Brixton, we welcome the Effra Band to Woolwich for the first time. The band will be joined by special guests with a strong Woolwich connection.

Adrian Reid Quartet
Dates: 25th March and 12th June at Tramshed
Raised in Woolwich, Adrian is a central figure in UK Jazz as a founder member of the Jazz Warriors in the 1980's. His recording experience covers many different styles from soul to jazz. He has recorded with Courtney Pine, Branford Marsalis, Chaka Khan, Mavis Staples, Billy Preston, Maxi Priest, Sonny Okuson, Manu Dibango and Chante Moore. Adrian has worked live with Archie Shepp, Annie Ross, Adelaide Hall, Chet Baker, Omar, Mica Paris, Boney M, Jimmy Ruffin and Paul Johnson.
Nyanza St is the latest album by the Adrian Reid Quartet which features four of the UK's finest Jazz musicians.

Byron Wallen
Dates: 15th May and 2nd July at Tramshed
Widely recognised as a seminal figure in world jazz, he is constantly travelling the world recording, teaching and performing. He has been playing trumpet in various contexts, live and on record, alongside legendary musicians such as George Benson, Andrew Hill, Chaka Khan, Ingrid Laubrock, Hugh Masekela, Courtney Pine, Mulatu Astatke, Red Snapper, Lonnie Liston Smith, Style Council, Jack Dejohnette, Jean Toussaint, Cleveland Watkiss and King Sunny Ade. He has visited East Africa, Morocco, Nigeria, Indonesia and Belize (his parents' homeland). On tour Wallen often works with local musicians, developing new ideas for his performances and compositions.
Byron will bring two special bands to the Woolwich Jazz series.
