Thamesmead was the first of the pioneering New Towns of the 1960s. Set among lakes, meandering riverbanks, open spaces and woodland nature reserves makes it the perfect destination for nature lovers and photographers, spotting kingfishers, partridges, hares, cuckoos and seals. You can also enjoy a regular programme of performance art, theatre and cultural events in the area.
Travel Information
Currently serviced by buses from North Greenwich, Woolwich and the recently started Elizabeth Line serving nearby Abbey Wood station, which is just a 25-minute journey to Bond Street. The Thames Path spans the length of the Borough, all the way from Thamesmead in the east to maritime Greenwich in the west, so it's ideal for travelling on foot or by bike.
