The Half Term holidays are approaching, so it’s time to start making plans. Lucky for you, the Conservatoire have got you covered!

Here are some art courses for children to stay creative and take chances on trying something exciting and new.

That's Not My Robot! (12th February)
Time: 9:30am - 11.30am
What would your robot look like? Mechanical gadgets and technologies are playing a larger part in our lives! Using all the gadgets as inspiration, we’ll draw and collage robots using lots of different images. Let’s make a 3-D one, adding lots of buttons and levers!

Flip Portraits In Space (12th February) 
Time: 9:30am - 3:30pm
Ever wanted to create a self-portrait but thought "I can't do that"? Introducing the unique method of the Flip Portrait, taught by the fantastic visiting tutor Jonathan Huxley. Jonathan is a contemporary artist and artist educator at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Patterns, Constellations, & M.C. Escher (12th February) 
Time: 12:30pm - 14:30pm | 3:00pm - 5:00pm 
Taking inspiration from the famous work of M.C. Escher, Bridget Riley and Rasheed Araeen, we will look at patterns and repetition based on water, sound and airwaves – which waves can travel through space?!​​​​​​

Build Your Own Rover Robot (13th February)
Time: 9:30pm - 3:30pm 
The Rover is a famous robot that explores Mars... where will your one explore when you take it home? We will create our own versions using card, lollipop sticks, foil... and anything else we can find!

What Do They Wear On Mars? (13th February)
Time: 9:30am -11:00am 
What do the aliens wear on Mars? What do the astronauts wear at NASA? Let’s make some clothes to wear in space! We’ll make an image of an explorer, and clothes to attach with magnets so you can dress them in whatever you want! We will also make some planet magnets to stick on your fridge so you can carry on exploring at home... what story will you tell?

Space Monsters & Aliens (13th February) 
Time: 12:30pm - 2:30pm  
Do you think imaginary creatures and mythical monsters live in other worlds out there up in the night sky? Let’s try and think what they look like... you can come along and collage your own creature!

Rusty Rockets & Pretty Planets (13th February) 
Time: 3:00pm - 5:00pm  
All sorts of shapes and sizes of vehicle are visions of the future of travel! We will design and make our own rocket, using junk modelling materials and paint, and we’ll also create our own maps of space! What will be up there? Perhaps flying saucers, rockets, and UFOs, we’ll also make a paper plate planet spiral to hang up at home!

Matisse & Cut Out Collage (14th February) 
Time: 9:30pm - 3:30pm  
Come along to the Conservatoire for a day of creativity! We will craft abstract multimedia collaged artworks in flat cardboard trays, inspired by the artist Matisse and the planets and galaxies in the sky.

Out Of This World Spaceships! (14th February) 
Time: 9:30pm - 3:30pm  
Design and create your own fantasy spaceship, built out of air-drying clay. Learn how to shape clay to create a unique spacecraft, inspired by space rockets of the past, from sci-fi and from our own wonderful imaginations.

How To Draw & Dream (15th February) 
Time: 9:30pm - 3:30pm  
Come along to the Conservatoire for a day of drawing! Together we will look at painters, stage designers, and other artists who use distortion of space to tell a story and portray a journey. We’ll look at stories and fairytales and how we can create their worlds in different ways; how would you show Alice falling down the rabbit hole, or Peter Pan flying to Neverland? Our day will include drawing from observation and imagination, cutting and collaging elements of our drawings together and painting our final dreamlike creations.

How Do Aliens See Earth? (15th February) 
Time: 9:30am - 11:30am  
Let’s look at the earth from outer space, like the aliens do! Taking inspiration from the work of Patrick Heron, we will be taking a line for a walk with drawing and cutting with scissors... using spray paint, stencils, and tape, we will create the spectacular shapes and colours of the universe!

Jackson Pollock and The Milky Way (15th February)

Have you ever wanted to throw paint around!? Well, flicking paint like Jackson Pollock is a great way to make paintings that look like space!

The Pale Blue Dot​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ (16th February) 
Time: 3:00pm - 5:00pm 
“The Pale Blue Dot” is the name of a photograph of planet earth taken on Feb 14th 1990 by Voyager 1 Space probe... from 6 billion kilometres away! Wow! Look at the work of Hilma af Klimt and be inspired by her use of shapes and lines to make our own beautiful planets with chalk pastels.
