About

Blackheath stretches across from the southern side of Greenwich Park, across the common and into the cosmopolitan, pretty village. It’s often a bit breezy across the heath so it’s a favourite spot for kite flyers and wind-skateboarders as well as runners, dog walkers and families out for a refreshing stroll, picnic or gathering.

Blackheath is the site of the notorious Peasants’ Revolt led by Wat Tyler in 1381 and is the original home of one of the world’s oldest golf clubs and the first ever open rugby club. Nowadays it’s home to fun fairs, festivals, and the start of the Virgin Money London Marathon.

The village itself is a chic, picturesque hub of restaurant and café-culture and home to an excellent Sunday Farmer’s Market, where you can shop for artisanal food and drink, seasonal specials, organic fruit and lovely locally grown vegetables to go with your Sunday roast.

From the perfectly English All Saint’s Church and the classic Clarendon Hotel on one side of the village, to the Conservatoire and Blackheath Halls on the other, it has a gentle, laid-back feel.
