About
Jelly Cleaver, one of the most talented guitarists and singer-songwriters on the London music scene right now will be performing live for a very special acoustic set in the revamped Woolwich Works bar.
Jelly will start the evening with an intimate live set performing a mix of her favourites across jazz, folk and soul, as well as some of her originals. This will be followed by a turn on the decks, selecting some of her favourite disco, jazz and hip-hop tunes, providing the perfect Saturday night soundtrack to South East London's 'best new culture spot'.
Jelly's music moves freely across genres, from cinematic and spiritual jazz to raw and rebellious post-punk. She goes from producing hip-hop beats to playing Jimi Hendrix-inspired guitar solos. She’ll pop up at underground poetry events or behind the DJ decks at club nights. Her refusal to be pigeonholed has seen her receive the Steve Reid Award for "outstanding emerging talent", be nominated for an Ivor's Composer Award for Large Jazz Ensemble and be featured by the likes of NPR, BBC 6Music, Bandcamp and Clash Music, who called her “exceptional”.
As well as being a prominent guitarist and composer in the UK jazz scene, Jelly brings her eclectic taste in music to DJing as well. She has a deep love of disco and getting people dancing during her sets, but often throws in jazz, hip-hop, house and experimental tracks to keep audiences on their toes. She’s DJ'd at festivals like We Out Here, BST Hyde Park and Love Supreme as well as playing the silent disco at Brainchild which allegedly caused Sam Smith to vogue like hell.
Pianist Jack Williams presents a programme of tunes by well-loved jazz artists such as Wayne Shorter, Art Blakey, Bill Evans and Pat Metheny, as well as some of his unique original compositions.
In his original brand of jazz, Jack and his band mix heavy grooving melodies with samples, harmonies and even the odd ballad. You can expect some incredibly creative improvisation over renditions of a selection of jazz classics.
