Find out more about the Youth Collective – a paid creative opportunity for young people from the Royal Borough of Greenwich

About

Are you aged 16-24? Interested in developing your skills and confidence as a producer? Do you live, work, or study in the Royal Borough of Greenwich?

Every year, the National Maritime Museum works with 12 people aged 16-24 to co-produce part of the public programme. As part of the Youth Collective, you’ll work with creative professionals, explore the museum collections, build your confidence as a producer, and gain new skills. Together, you’ll collaborate on a new public programme for museum visitors to enjoy and get paid for your time.

What does the Youth Collective do?
The Youth Collective meets weekly across 6-10 weeks, at the National Maritime Museum, with support from the Engagement team. Sessions take place in the evenings, but there may be additional meetings outside of these times, in-line with any workshops or events the group want to programme or attend.

Past members have produced takeover events for young people, but it's up to the 2024 Youth Collective to decide what’s next. Whether it's an event, series of workshops, space for young people to come together, an interactive map, exhibition space, podcast, music video, or a film...what the engagement with museum visitors looks like is up to you!

What will you get from this programme?
You will be paid an hourly rate in line with London Living Wage. The fee is paid monthly for each session attended. You’ll also receive:
- A welcome pack
- Refreshments at sessions
- Access to professionals from a range of departments including marketing and curatorial
- Support with CV writing

How to apply:
Applications for this year's Youth Collective are now closed. The next Youth Collective will run in Autumn 2024, with applications opening in Summer. Usually, you will be asked to answer a few questions about yourself and what type of things interest you. You can apply in writing, a video, or submit an audio recording - whatever is easiest for you.

If you would like to be added to the mailing list, to receive notification when applications open, please email youngpeople@rmg.co.uk.
