Woolwich is home to some outstanding places to eat and drink and is beginning to develop an even greater variety of restaurants and cafes.
Breakfast
Build a good foundation for the day with breakfast at community café artFix on Powis Street or French bakery Boulangerie Jade, which both offer fantastic coffee and a range of delightful cakes, pastries and sandwiches.
Lunch and dinner
Discover one of the area’s outstanding Nepalese and Tibetan restaurants, where ‘momos’ (dumplings served steamed or fried with homemade sauces) are an essential order. You’ll often find locals piling into homely, family-run Kailash Momo or Maya DD’s, or heading to Namaste on the Wheel in Beresford Square Market, a stone’s throw from Woolwich Arsenal Station.
Staying on Beresford Square, you can grab a Venezuelan arepa, a deep-fried corn flour patty filled with marinated chicken, beef or vegetables, at Peter’s Panas, an unmissable bao bun at ViB Bar, or a slice of wood-fired pizza at Pizza Squad for a quick and delicious bite to eat.
Enjoy beautifully prepared, freshly made sushi at Hitachi Sushi, inside the area's newest food venue Woolwich Market on Powis Street – where you’ll also find Chai-Naama, or excellent modern Italian food cooked in an open kitchen at Con Gusto, a bijou restaurant housed in a grade II listed former guardhouse.
There’s more great food at eateries including Viet Baguette, The Coffee Lounge, China City and Rust Bucket Pizza Co.
Pubs and bars
You can find an excellent collection of unique pubs in Woolwich, with craft beer celebrated in most licensed premises.
For a traditional great British dish paired with fantastic wine, beers and spirits in a lovely garden, with a cherry tree blossom in Spring, head to The Guard House, back in the Royal Arsenal.
Try the Dial Arch, for a comfortable and elegant haven, set in beautiful surroundings. There’s an open fire and a sun terrace, so you’re pretty well looked after whatever the weather. Thirsty yet?
