Welcome to “Our Song, Our Story” – dive into this 8-week journey designed to unleash your creative potential in the world of music and visual arts.
Designed for 12-18 year olds based in Thamesmead, with a focus on those from the African Diaspora, African and Caribbean backgrounds. The project aims to engage young people in a culturally relevant and creative experience, allowing them to express their heritage and connect with their peers through music and art.
This programme offers a limited number of places to young musicians, singers, and rappers keen to express their creativity and make their voices heard.
This is a chance to create original songs, record them in a professional studio, perform them in front of a live audience, and explore the captivating world of visual arts to craft your own music videos.
What You’ll Learn
- The art of songwriting and developing your lyrics into songs
- Develop your voice through vocal sessions
- Record the songs you’ve worked on at a recording studio
- Perform live, learn the ins and outs of stage presence, and face an audience with confidence
- Translate your songwriting ideas into visual narratives and create your own music videos
- Understand and practice storyboarding, filming, and video editing under the guidance of video and animation professionals
Mentorship
Throughout this journey, you will be guided by mentors from Everyone’s A Singer and The Collective Makers – industry professionals eager to share their expertise. Additionally, professional musicians and visual artists from Thamesmead will provide further support, offering invaluable insights and inspiration.
Collaborate and Grow
This programme is not just about developing technical skills. It’s about growing as an individual and as part of a team. You’ll collaborate with fellow participants, local musicians, and mentors, honing your communication and interpersonal skills while working on collective projects. Together you will produce three songs and three music videos.
Showcase Your Talent
At the end of the programme, showcase your creative endeavours at our finale event Location TBC.
